Where I'm From

I am from a quiet gated community on a hill beside a busy street, from Brisk Iced Tea, sports cars, and watching my favorite soccer team, Arsenal, play live at SoFi Stadium. 

I am from the house with a very European interior, my sister playing music upstairs,  and the constant sound of people’s footsteps

I am from the orange tree in the backyard that has never bloomed, the grass in my backyard that used to attract rabbits and squirrels.

I am from Chinese Lunar Year; arguing with my sister and telling her to be quiet and go to her room, from Peter, Carrie, and Lin.

I am from high expectations and always do your best whether you like it or not. 

From you would be a great doctor and you have to be careful about the little things. 

I am from Buddhist temples with the smell of burning incense so strong that I can barely breathe. 

I’m from PIH Health Whittier Hospital and Asian immigrants, rice and stir fry.

From practicing baseball at the park with my dad, shooting my sister with my nerf gun; from my mom teaching me math so I could get a head start in 6th grade.

I am from FIFA with my friends, education with my mom, sports with my dad, and “Work hard, play hard”.
